The 90 card set came in a plastic case with the packaging attached to the lid. I didn't own any of these as a kid although I was a pretty avid card collector.
The art seems to come straight from the comics at the time, but still looks a little odd. I don't know if they recolored the art or had artist redraw stuff based on comic art. I just don't know the history of the cards.
I think a lot of the art for these cards was from Marvel Comics Presents. I say that because just from what cards you're showing here. I don't know how familiar you are with Sam Kieth(mostly known for his creation...The Maxx), but a lot of his work is on these cards. He did a lot of covers for MCP, as well as some of the interiors. I only have one card from this set currently, and it a prism card, and of course it's by Sam Kieth. I hope this helps.
