Brony Con 2015- Baltimore MD

Last weekend I attended Brony Con in Maryland.  I'm not a big My Little Pony fan, but I love a good convention. There was a nice vendor room, lots of panels, and tons of cosplayers. I was most impressed with the wide age range of MLP fans. I've also never seen a fan base that was more proud of their Fandom. People were decked out head to to in My Little Pony gear.

Flea Market Finds #36 (She-Ra & Golden Girl)

Last weekend I hit a goldmine of girly toys. I was walking around the flea market with my friends Mike & Nick and we spotted this Princess of Power lunch box which was full of She-Ra and Golden Girl dolls. The lunch box is made a light blue plastic and features a great sticker that shows off She-Ra and Swiftwind.

 Inside the lunch box there was a very clean She-Ra doll with all her gold paint in great shape. There was also a Scratch & Sound Catra with some of her soft goods accessories.

There was also a ton of  Golden Girl & the Guardians of the Gemstone dolls. Here we have Golden Girl and Rubee. Golden Girl wears gold armor and Rubee is dressed in red and gold.

 Dragon Queen is the main villain and is one of the most clothed figures in the line. It's interesting that she has the goth/punk type look that the Jem villains featured.

Vultura and Wild One are also villains. 

Vultura has cool Bride of Frankenstein type hair. Wild One has the craziest boots in the line.

I saved the best for last, Moth Lady! Of course I can't look at this figure without thinking of Miss M from Diary of a Dorkette.If you haven't checked out her blog before... do so! This cool doll has purple wings on her back and interesting detailing on her torso.

The lunch box also contained a few capes and skirts and giant combs. Not exactly sure if these items belong to any of these dolls. If you know anything about these accessories leave me a comment below.

Flea Market Finds #26

I hit the road this morning with my usual flea marketing buddies. We went to two different markets in New Jersey. I had never been to either one before. It was nice to see some different vendors, for variety's sake. I bought a nice toolbox and another circular saw. More importantly I bought some toys!

I picked up a vintage Princess of Power figure, Perfuma. I got the Dragon Walker vehicle from the 200x Masters of the Universe toy line. From the Fisher Price Muppet Show Players line I picked up a Kermit and Gonzo that are in nicer shape than the ones I recently bought. The last figure I picked up today is Stink from the 90's Land of the Lost.

I picked up a vintage Masters of the Universe story book and two issues of the Marvel run of GI Joe.

Below are two photos of the Dragon Walker with 200x He-Man going for a ride. These machines allowed He-Man and the Masters to battle real dragons in the cartoon series by Mike Young Productions (MYP). I think it's missing at least one gun. I haven't figured out how to put batteries in it yet to see if it still works.

There was one vendor with a large lot of modern TMNT figure, vehicles, and accessories. She was asking $20 which was a good price, but I have pretty much everything from that line. I went back later to offer $15, but the stuff was sold. I was going to use them for animating or possibly take them to school for the kids to use when they animate.

Professor Cold Heart - Care Bears

A while a go I posted about some possible Care Bears figures that belonged to my sister and myself as kids. I gave all those figures to my niece. One of our Cousins also gave her some Care Bear figures. Last time I was over we were playing with them. My niece was honestly terrified of the Professor Cold Heart figure. She wouldn't even look at him. So I brought him home. I'll take him back in a few months and see if she's over it.

Cold Heart is a gray skinned old man dressed in a blue coat. He has frost around his boots and sleeves. Cold Heart also wears a red and white scarf. This figure has the standard five points of articulation and originally included a frosty mug accessory. It's interesting that the Care Bears villain has "heart" in his name.

My NJCC Purchases

I bought some fun stuff at the New Jersey Collectors Convention this weekend. Some of these items will get a more in-depth post some day. Next time I need to take a list of vehicle parts and figure accessories with me so I can buy stuff I need to complete my GI Joe collection.

First up is a carded sample of Ma-Ti and Kwame, two of the Planeteers from Captain Planet. I always enjoyed the cartoon show. I had one of the bad guys as a kid, but none of the heroes. I had a friend down the street who had a few of the Planeteers. I couldn't pass this up, it's just a fun 90's piece.

 Next I picked up a Kenner Aliens Power Loader. The fight scene between Ripley in the loader and the Queen Alien is a classic. I have quite a few of the Kenner Aliens toys, including a carded and loose Ripley and a boxed Power Loader. This loose Loader and Ripley was cheap and I've wanted to be able to display them with the Queen for a while now. The Power Loader is missing the missile and one of the pincher hands is broken, but I think will display fine.

I found this loose, but complete vintage Prince Adam figure. I've said it many times here on Action Figure Adventures that I love the "unmasked" figures. Bruce Wayne, Clark Kent, and Prince Adam were all figure I wanted as a kid. I played with my childhood Adam constantly as a kid. Eventually I sold him when I got rid of my MOTU collection to focus on GI Joe and Star Wars. I have been slowly rebuilding my vintage collection and until now had an Adam without his vest and belt.

Here's Blackstar, the main character from another 80's toy line that was turned into a cartoon show by Filmation. This is the same animation studio behind the original He-Man & the Masters of the Universe.

I don't own very many Princess of Power figures (dolls) but I have a handful. My Bow figure is in great shape, but missing all his accessories. I was able to pick up a loose bow with his armor and cape to give to the nice figure in my collection. The figure I picked up yesterday isn't horrible, but the gold is rubbed of his glove and boots a bit. Now I still need to find his bow and quiver.

I missed Tytus and chose to skip buying Megator when he was released. Then when he was available for $10 at Big Lots I couldn't find one. So for double the Big Lots price, but half the Matty Collector price I picked up a boxed Megator.

I've posted before about Toyfinity's Mordles mini-figures, based on the originals from the Rocks & Bugs & Things toy line. I picked up another Mordle this time in black, but I was really excited to get an over sized glow-in-the-dark Mordle. I like the fact that his feet have swivel cut articulation. These are simple toys, but a lot of fun.They area great tribute to an retro toy.

 

Rainbow Brite Pencils

Here are two Rainbow Brite Pencils that probably belonged to my sister in the '80s. They are both white with images of Rainbow Brite and her horse Starlite on them with some colorful starts in between. The both feature rounded off tops with no erasers. One is in brand new, while the other one is sharpens, but not used much. Rainbow Brite was created by Hallmark Cards and turned into a popular 80's brand.

Troll in a Tux -Russ

In the 90's when Trolls were big, like most kids I owned several of them. This is a Russ Troll, which was my favorite brand of these figures/dolls. This particular Troll features bright pink hair and a tuxedo.

Grubby - Teddy Ruxpin

Grubby the Octopede is Teddy Ruxpin's best friend. This figure is a little 3.5" treasure from 1986. He is articulated a the neck, arms, and each of his legs. Grubby is the only toy from this series I ever owned. As a kid i enjoyed the live action Teddy Ruxpin show as well as the cartoon. At one point in time, when I was a  kid, I made a platform that fit on his back out of toothpicks and two bent nails that allowed Lego figures to ride on his bac.

Jabba's Sail Barge or Glamor Gals Ocean Queen

Back when I was a kid, my Mom brought home this giant cruise ship after she went out the get groceries. It was out for trash at the end of a neighbors driveway on her way home. She thought my sister would like it, but it's far to small for Barbies. My sister didn't really have any toys that would fit in it, because there aren't many toys in the same scale as the Glamor Gals. I quickly figured out it worked well with my 3 3/4 inch figures (although the windows are technically to tall).

I used the Cruise Ship with both my GI Joes and Star Wars figures. With the GI Joes, the ship was their Naval Flag Ship. I didn't have the Air Craft Carrier as a kid. When I played with my Star Wars toys the Cruise Ship was Jabba's Sail Barge.

I've mentioned before that my buddy Derek and I used to take photos of "Set Ups" when we were kids. These set ups  rarely happened at my house, but we did play Star Wars almost exclusively at my place.

The tables that the aliens are hanging out at on the lower levels are made out of Construx. These 80's building toys were used to make lots of accessories for my action figures. You may notice the Rancor Keeper and several Gamorrean Guards right under Jabba. There is actually an opening in the floor that leads to that room. If someone fell down the "trap door" the guards would grab the victim and throw them out the back window of the ship to Derek's Rancor Monster. (We combined elements of both the Palace and Barge when we played with the ship)

The last item of note in the photo is my home made Han Solo in Carbonite on the deck behind Leia in Boussh disguise. At Derek's house, on several occasions, we made play sets by pouring plaster of Paris into shirt boxes full of tin foil and sticks. One time Derek's mom game use this great idea to fill a little container with sand. Then press Bespin Han Solo into the sand. Once we removed the figure we poured plaster into the impression. Once the plaster hardened we ended up with our own version of a very hard to find toy.  I may post more about this creation some day.

I reality this is a Cruise Ship that came with more than 50 accessories.  There should be tables, chairs, a shuffleboard game, a heart shaped pool, and railings. I never had any parts to it. That never stopped me or my friends from having a ton of fun with this girl toy.

More Retro Sticker!

Here is another glimpse at my childhood sticker collection. Lots of awesome 80's puffy stickers. Today's grouping features many of the properties from the 80's that boys and girls alike enjoyed. In fact, my sister probably has stickers in her collection from the same sheets.

 Two Cabbage Patch Kid boys. The special signifigance here is that I owned two of 

these dolls as a kid. One had brown yarn hair and the other was bald.

 A pair of Care Bears

 This picture shows off a page from my sticker book with several Get-Along Gang stickers and

a number of Cabbage Patch Kids. There is even a Hot Wheels sticker on this page. There will be a future post dedicated to the car stickers.

Million Color Drawing Set - Clowny

Clowny was a big name in trendy art supplies in the late 80's. The Million Color Drawing Set contained all their products in one box. I recently came across mine from back in the day while helping clean out my parents attic. They use the terms "million color" very loosely because there are really about ten. Check out my video review of all four products contained in the box.

   

Check out this vintage Clowny Commercial, you'll know why I wanted this set. It made the set look pretty impressive. I never really used it a whole lot.

Stickers - Retro and Modern

I recently received a package of goodies from my buddy Tony from Action Figs & Things, and one of the items in the package was Captain America stickers from the recent movie. This got me thinking. I had a pretty decent sticker collection in the late 80's and early 90's, I bet there are some cool stickers in there based on retro properties and toys.

 These early to mid 90's Star Wars stickers were using in party favor bags at one of my birthdays. My Mom cut up several sheet and I dropped a few in each bag. R2-D2 is one of my favorite characters and so all of his stickers were given out or used up so there is a blank spot in the bottom corner.

This sheet of Godzilla stickers came with a set of Valentine cards. There are used to seal up the little cards after they have been folded in half. Most of them were used up.

These Boglin Stamps were a prize inside breakfast cereal when I was a kid. They were to promote a line of hand puppet monster toys. My sister and I had quite a few sheets of these. We had fun licking and sticking them on pictures we drew. You may notice on the yellow and green sets the little Boglin characters are all named.

 

 

This next set of stickers was part of the Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful 1989 program. I have been unable to find any information about this online. Although I found a couple of embroidered patches on ebay with the robot on them. These stickers came with a comic book and the Robot, Trashcan, and Paperbag guy all tried to clean up the Earth in the story. It's been decades since I read it, and don't remember what it was called. My sister used markers to color in her stickers.

 The Tang Lips. There were several different stickers that tied into this particular marketing campaign. I had this one stuck on the cover of one of my sticker books. I also had one stuck on a plastic file card box that I used to store the clip and save cards from the

 back of my Ninja Turtles packages.

Here is Rainbow Brite stuck in another sticker book. Sticker books are kind of a weird idea, since once you put the sticker in there you can't use it again. I think that's the reason why later I kept so many sticker in there original condition on their sheet (unstuck). In the end it didn't really matter I guess. Stuck or Unstuck they have just sat in a box for twenty plus years.
