Doc Brown - BTTF ReAction

The ReAction line of vintage style toys are finally becoming readily available. I bought a whole bunch a few weeks back at the FYE Event, but I didn't get to feature any of them here on Action Figure Adventures yet. This Doctor Emmett Brown figure is based on the scene in the mall parking lot where Doc shows Marty the Time Machine.

 These ReAction figures are made by Funko and Super7. They are done in the old Kenner style, and to save paying likeness rights (just like in the old days) The face sculpts don't really capture the likeness of the actors who played the characters exactly. Doc is dressed in white cover-alls with brown shoes. The main detail that makes it obvious that this is a figure of Doc Brown is his crazy mop of white hair.

Even though the ReAction figures have a limited amount of detailing, there are still some nice touches on this figure. Doc Brown has a cool little tool belt with a wrench sculpted in it.

Doc's one accessory is the remote control he used to drive the Time Machine. This photo doesn't really do the remote justice.  It's a really nice accessory, but it's got a goofy handle sculpted on the back to allow Doc to hold it.

Super Exciting Outrageous Toy Review

I've been collecting toys for a long time. It's always been a hobby of mine. I love getting to share that hobby with other people. I like going to toy shows with friends to hunt down new toys. I like showing off my collection to friends that come over to my house. Over the years I've made lot of youtube videos with my toys or about toys. Then I started the Action Figure Adventures blog to continue sharing my love of toys. At the end of the day most of my toy stuff (YouTube and blog) has been kind of a one man show and just sort of done when I have the time.

Recently I was involved in a Grand Re-Opening Event for FYE as their stores evolve. I was recognized a someone who knows what's going on in the world of toys and collectables. Out of all the toy blogger out there I was one of thee few ask to consult on the project.

Now I've been recommended to some people who were starting a new YouTube Channel all about the most popular toys. A good friend of mine heard about this new project and told the people I should be their Boy Toy Reviewer. So now I'm part of the Super Exciting Outrageous Toy Review family.


Basically I'm part of a team that is producing toy reviews about some of the best selling toys of today. Making toy videos is something I do on my own already at my house. Now I get to do something I enjoy, but while hanging out with some cool people while we shoot.



I will definitely be posting some of the SEO Toy Review Videos here on AFA, but not all of them will interest the average AFA reader.

These reviews will not feature my usual stop motion animation or Baby Skeletor. In addition they are also geared towards a younger audience, but I think some of them are still fun. I've already shot of handful of reviews, but I don't know the order the videos will be posted. I actually though today's video was going to be one of mine, but I guess not. We are still finding our style and working out the kinks, but as the channel gets rolling I'd love to hear some feedback from you guys.

Display Update: AFA Collection Mini-Figs

Ever since I was a kid I've loved the old printer's trays that held the metal type in a California Job Case.  These trays when hung on the wall make great shelves for mini-figs. My buddy Derek had one in his room as a kid that we called the knick-knack shelf. I've had one hanging in my dining room for a while now, and it was pretty much filled. I just recently bought another one at a yard sale. I actually bought it from a guy who owned a printing business.

 I moved a lot of my Kre-o GI Joe figures from the top of the upper case to the top of the new case. This gives me more room for some of the large Blind Box figures as I collect them.

Here are some little Guardians of the Galaxy Blind Box Bobble-Heads figures made by Funko. Star-Lord and Rocket are the first new figures to find a home in my new shelf. These guys came into my collection due to a new project I'm now involved with. I've hinted at this new project once before, but tomorrow's post will be the big announcement. (trying not to hype it too much...) My Action Figure Adventures readers may enjoy some parts of the new project, but you guys aren't really the target audience for the new project.

Here's the Ewok video I made for my middle school students. I've used the Robot Chicken Mad Scientist as a host in several videos now. The Ewoks are used to help illustrate a point about half way through the film.

Ewoks! - Vintage and Modern Star Wars

I was outside this evening taking pictures of some Ewoks for a video I'm making for my Middle School science class. The first marking period is all about environmental science. The first chapter focuses on population and what factors have an effect on that. I needed to represent the terms Organism, Population, Community, and Ecosystem.

AT-AT on HGTV

Sorry my bogging has been a little spotty. My life always gets crazy this time of year. School is back in session, plus my weekends get busy with Hayride stuff as well. I think I am going to discontinue blog posts on the weekends for a while. I've also been in talks with another gorup of peple for another toy related project. We will see how much of my time this new project takes up. AFA isn't going anywhere, so don't worry about that. I'll be posing details about the new project when the ink is dry and there is info to share.

On an episode of Buying and Selling on HGTV I spotted an AT-AT in the basement of one of the houses the couple was looking at. There may be a few other toys on the ledge, but it's hard to tell what they are.

Zoar - MOTU Animation Cels

Below is a pair of original animation cels of Zoar from He-Man & the Masters of the Universe. Zoar was originally He-Man's Fighting Falcon, an over-sized orange bird. The character was re-purposed as the Sorceress' falcon form that she uses to leave Castle Grayskull. The two cels are part of a series of images that create a stock flying sequence for Zoar. Dozens of images of this bird were put together to create a flying scene used in several episodes of the series.

In the cartoon series Zoar was the size of a normal falcon, but the toy was very over-sized because it was actually reused tooling. Like Battle Cat, Zoar used tooling from Mattel's Big Jim toy line. There was also plans to reuse a Big Jim gorilla in the He-Man line, but the figure of Gygor was not released until the Classics line.

One of these cels is still in my collection. The other was donated to the Toonseum in Pittsburgh, PA.

Sy-Klone - Vntage MOTUC

Sy-Klone was a Heroic Warrior in the Masters of the Universe line. He's a blue skinned man that can spin his upper body so fast he generates tornadoes. He's dressed in a blue, yellow, and red uniform with a radar dish on his chest. The dish is actually a lenticular sticker, so the Radar image sweeps across the sticker. The toy has a built in action feature that allows his torso to spin when a dial on his belt is moved. The spinning force makes his arms elevate and fly out to the sides.

 To make Sy-Klone's action feature work his arms do not have traditional MOTU joints. In fact, his arms can't really be posed at all. They just sort of dangle limply. In the photo below I actually was holding him upside down to simulate the way his arms spread out without having to deal with motion blur while taking the photo. Sy-Klone came with one accessory, a yellow shield that could be clipped to either of his wrists.

As a kid, I thought Sy-Klone's face looked a lot like He-Man's face. Since he has blue skin and looks like He-Man I naturally connected the character with Faker. I frequently pretended that Sy-Klone was a new version of Faker.

Insect Body Mr. Freeze

Insect Body Mr. Freeze was released in 1998 as part of The New Batman Adventures Mission Masters series. This line was based on the second version of the Batman Animated Series. The cartoon designs changed a little and were somewhat darker. I bought Mr. Freeze at a yard sale because I really liked his black and metallic blue uniform. Only later did I find out his head could be removed an attached to a spider body that I don't own. He also came with an ice blaster which could be stored inside his torso when he's in spider mode.

I love his pale skinned head with red eyes inside the clear dome. I just think the character design is really striking. I hope to come across the spider body at a toy show some time.

Amazing Spider-Man

When the Amazing Spider-Man movie was released, Spider-Man was the only figure I actually purchased. I didn't hate the design of his costume in the reboot film, but I also didn't love it. This figure is pretty well articulated and since Spider-Man is my favorite Marvel hero I wanted to add something to my collection from the film.
